Rooted in Faith, Growing Through Education

Founded in 1897 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS), Mengo Primary School is Uganda’s oldest primary school. As a co-educational, Anglican, and government-aided institution, it has been at the forefront of education for 124 years. The school serves over 900 pupils, with 45% being girls, and is funded through parent fees, government grants under Universal Primary Education (UPE), and support from charities that assist vulnerable students.

The school was founded by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) from London in 1897. It was the first Primary school in Uganda.Today the school is co-educational for boys and Giirls. It is a Church founded (Anglican) school. It is Government aided benefiting from the Government Policy of Universal Primary Education (UPE) which came in place in 1997 the exact same year that the school celebrated 100 years.

Preparing pupils to be productive in the community, self-reliant, dependable and admirable in society.
